BRITISH COUNCIL SCOTLAND COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications are invited for British Council Scotland Commonwealth Scholarships available for students from Commonwealth countries. Scholarships are open for literature and creative writing students to attend the summer school. Two 2-week Literature scholarships and one 4-week Creative Writing scholarship will be awarded. This will cover the summer school’s course and accommodation fees, which includes the cost of all tuition, accommodation, most meals, a social and cultural programme and full use of the facilities of Edinburgh University’s library. Applications should be submitted till 21st March 2014.
Study Subject (s): Scholarships are awarded for literature and creative writing courses at Scottish Universities’ International Summer School. Eligibility: They are intended to support gifted students from Commonwealth countries who would otherwise be unable to attend the summer school. Applications for this scholarship are now invited from undergraduate or postgraduate students in British and/ or Irish Literature and Creative Writing.
Scholarship Open for International Students: Applicants who are citizens of commonwealth countries (Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, Cameroon, Cyprus, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, The Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica , Kenya , Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, St Helena, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone , Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Virgin Islands (British), Zambia and South Africa) are eligible for the scholarships.
Scholarship Description: The Scottish Universities’ International Summer School was founded as a non-profit organisation by Professor David Daiches in 1947. In the spirit of the Edinburgh International Festival, SUISS brings together students and academics who, irrespective of their national, religious, cultural or gender differences, share a love of literature. The British Council Scotland Commonwealth Scholarships are supported by the generosity of British Council Scotland to celebrate the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland. They are intended to support gifted students from Commonwealth countries who would otherwise be unable to attend the summer school. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

Duration of award(s): 2-week Literature scholarships and 4-week Creative Writing scholarship will be awarded.
What does it cover? Please note the scholarship does not cover travel expenses or spending money.
